From January – March 2014, the U.S. Department of Energy is holding an “Apps for Energy II” contest that will award the best web and mobile apps using the Department of Energy API's, standards and tools to solve some of America’s most important energy challenges. To kick off the contest, we’re holding a hackathon where developers, designers and energy professionals can meet up, brainstorm ideas, form teams and start working on apps to submit to the contest. We will have representatives from the Department of Energy and other mentors on hand to help you get started, and we will be awarding prizes for the “best demos” at the end of the hackathon. Teams that form up at the hackathon will be encouraged to submit their finished apps to the Contest by March 9, 2014 to be eligible for the Contest’s main cash prizes.

We all appreciate the genius ideas born from pub banter. PubHack is a 10 hour tech based hackathon which lets you take those ideas to the next level. Each team (min 1, max 4) will get a brief at the beginning of the day, and can create anything in response. You can make a website, an app, or even a game. Anything goes! Each team will be able to present their idea at the end of the day, and the judges (tbc) will present awesome awards and prizes.

This Geeklist #Hack4Good will take place in tandem around the world onsite and online, in 50+ cities, with over 5,000 developers, to present ideas, form teams and build projects using each of our individual strengths in software development, technology and entrepreneurship. NGO's and participants alike can add ideas to help make the world a better place, turn those ideas into projects, unite teams and make those ideas become a reality - all in a 48 hour sprint to hack a better world together. We are comprised of software engineers and hackers, ui/ux designers, product developers and founders, leaders, thinkers and civic minded organizations. We give products built at our hackathons perpetual life and help them live on and progress beyond the event. Participants completing the event also become immediate members of our Geeklist Corps of Developers. "Hack a better world with us." We look forward to working with such esteemed non-profits and NGO's like Oxfam, Amnesty International, Global Fund, United Nations OCHA, GOAL Ireland, Friend of the Earth and many others.

This is our first of many hardware hackathons for developers in the greater Bozeman area. Teams are invited to build robots, wearables, or whatever they can dream up during the alloted time. We will provide all the tools and components your teams will need. Each team will be presented with a "build box" of identical components. Each team can do what they desire with the "build boxes," heck even include the box itself in the project.
